What Factors Need To Be Considered When Purchasing A Magnetic Powder Brake

When selecting the magnetic powder clutch and brake, calculate the torque, speed and slip power (heat generation) used, and confirm that all indicators are within the allowable range.
The following describes the selection methods and precautions for each item:
(1) Torque
Calculate the maximum and minimum values of the used torque and confirm whether the calculated value is within the controllable range. The torque control range of the magnetic powder clutch and brake is between the rated torque and the product idle torque (2 to 100% of the rated torque).Idle torque: due to the loss of torque in the bearing and sealing ring inside the product, the torque will not be 0N·m even if the excitation current is set at 0A. This idling torque is usually about 2% of the rated torque, but varies from product to product.
2) speed
The maximum speed of both magnetic powder clutch and brake should be controlled below the allowable speed. In addition, the minimum speed of the magnetic powder brake should be controlled above 15r/min, and the difference between the input and output speed of the magnetic powder clutch should be set above 15r/min (that is, the slip speed of both the magnetic powder clutch and the magnetic powder brake should be above 15r/min).
A low slip speed will worsen the internal magnetic powder distribution, resulting in the inability to obtain stable torque performance, or extend the time required to reach the specified torque after starting.
(3) slip power (calorific value)
Because the magnetic powder clutch and brake are usually used in a continuous slip state, affected by the heat of slip, the magnetic powder clutch brake temperature will rise. The temperature increase is limited by the heat resistance temperature of the parts used, so the allowable continuous slip power (allowable heat value) is specified according to different models. That is, the magnetic powder clutch brake can be used in a long time stable state when operating within the allowable value range. On the contrary, exceeding the allowable continuous slip power will cause damage to the magnetic powder clutch brake, please be careful.
Slip power (calorific value) P (W) can be calculated by the following equation:
P = 0.105×T×Nr (W)
T: torque (N·m);
Nr: slip speed of magnetic powder clutch · brake (r/min).
(for magnetic powder clutch, it refers to the slip between input and output speed, and for magnetic powder brake, it refers to input speed.)
